Comfort, in his eyes, is only achieved by getting all details right, small as well as big. Elegant comfort, the kind that appears effortless, is always his aim. It is not about dazzling them with glitz and glamour but about conjuring up an atmosphere of graceful sophistication. Van de Bilt believes ‘are more important than any design scheme’. A hotel is like a play, he will tell you:” if the cast is good, the play is good”, subsequently, immaculate level of service and impressive standard of food.
